Rhetoric in Advertisement Example

My example of rhetoric is an old Coca Cola advertisement. I choose to analyze this advertisement due to the fact that rhetoric is a huge aspect of advertisement. This is the case because companies desire to persuade their audience towards purchasing a specific product often this is done by not only selling a product but a lifestyle as well. By showing 3 teens informally dressed, Coke intended to appeal to your everyday teenager at the time. Each of the teens depicted is smiling and seems to be having a good time. This helps sell the product due to the fact that the viewer is manipulated to think that this happiness can be achieved through the consumption of this beverage alone. By portraying a very simple lifestyle they are able to appeal to a large majority of the United States population at the time. Although this example is incredibly simple the idea is consistent all throughout advertisement. All companies use rhetoric in order to appeal to a specific audience in order to sell a product.
